Tom Edwards gets dream start in Superprestigio
December 23, 2016

Motorbike all-rounder and young gun, Tom Edwards recently had the ride of a lifetime in the hugely popular Superprestigio Dirt Track event in Barcelona, Spain, an event that attracts World Championship contenders.

Already over in Spain soaking up some European Motorcycle experience, after a year competing in the Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup, Edwards wasn’t expecting to receive an invite from Marc Marquez himself to compete in the prestigious event.

Mentored by Brad Baker, American Factory Harley Davidson rider and former AMA Champion, and Spanish Champion Ferran Cardus, mounted on the Grau Suzuki Racing Team bike, Edwards found himself on the starting line against some of the world’s best motorcycle contenders.

Following in the footsteps of Australia former Superbike World Champion Troy Bayliss, Edwards competed finishing 4th in his heat, but unfortunately for the young gun two crashes sustained in qualifying and his first race led him to not qualify for the main final.

Still a brilliant effort from the young talented rider Tom shared that “It was an amazing experience and I loved Spain. The tracks were very similar to our Speedway tracks and the setup of the bikes was close as well.”

“I got to ride with many of my idols and then to actually race against them and bash bars was mad. It was so much fun,” he finished.
