Ducati exemplifies passion when it comes to motorcycles. With a fantastic history that stretches back pre World War II, when the factory was producing radio and optic equipment (also on display at the SIBBB). The company soon found itself after the War producing the ‘Cucciolo’, that featured a motor fitted to a pushbike frame. Ducati's first steps as a motorcycle manufacturer were taken!
It wasn't until the 750 Imola Desmo until Ducati would truly be put on the map. The bike won the famous 1972 Imola 200 miles with Paul Smart, solidifying the brand as a force to be reckoned with. A 750 Super Sport Green Frame will be at the SIBBB, a rare street legal homage to the Imola victory.
NCR Ducati, the manufacturer's racing branch was formed in 1967. Here they produced and developed race production Ducatis. The company become involved in European endurance racing and two of their riders; Grau and Cannellas won the Montjuic 24 hour race in 1973 on a NCR 750. Success with further established when the 900 NCR took victory in the 1978 Isle of Man Formula 1 TT ridden by the late great Mike Hailwood! The SIBBB is honoured to have the sister machine ridden in the same race by Jim Scaysbrook at this year’s event.
Also at this year’s SIBBB event will be the brilliant Bob Brown TT1 Ducati; formerly ridden by Kevin Magee, Robert Holden and other brilliant riders.
The SIBBB will also feature an extremely rare Ducati round case 860SS, ridden to victory at Bathurst by the late great Kenny Blake and the Eddie Lopez Imola replica, fresh from a recent engine rebuild.
A trio of rare Ducati’s will be headlining the display collection; including a 900SS that competed in 1977 Castrol Six Hour race, a factory NCR 860 Ducati ridden in the 1978 Isle of Man TT and a factory FC-06 ridden in the World Superbike Championship. These Ducati’s are important bikes of world racing history and to have them on display at the SIBBB, will be both an honour and a privilege.
