Levels of Officials


Level 0 - Basic Orientation Level

In the case where a person does not have any accreditation, they are therefore only qualified to act as an assistant whilst in training or assisting at a meeting.

They must be given the basic orientation briefing by appropriately licensed officials prior to commencing duties. The briefing must be given each time an unlicensed person undertakes duties at a meeting.


Level 1 - Club Level

In order to act as an official at club level, prospective officials may attend a seminar or complete relevant online or correspondence training and must successfully achieve the assessment requirements.

The completed assessment and licence application are to be returned to the relevant State Controlling Body for processing.

Applicants may complete this assessment in their own time and may refer to the GCR's. The questionnaire may be comprised of multiple choice questions. The assessment needs to be successfully completed by persons wishing to become an accredited official.

Generally, all current officials are automatically graded at Level 1 unless application is made for higher accreditation

Attaining a Level 1 Motorcycle Sport Officials Accreditation

Level 1 Officials Accreditation is administered by the State Controlling Bodies (SCB's) of MA. Please contact your relevant SCB for further information.

Note: Applications for Level 1 and 2 accreditation are generally reviewed by the SCB Manager. If there is any doubt as to the experience of the applicant, the application may be referred to the State Officials' Review Panel for final approval.


Level 2 - Inter Club Level

To attain Level 2 accreditation, officials are required to hold current Level 1 officials accreditation, attend a role specific seminar and successfully achieve the assessment requirements.

The seminars are designed to be practical by nature.

Level 2 is the lowest level for accreditation of a Steward.

To retain their accreditation, Level 2 officials are required to either show proof of participation in the role or proof of assisting at a higher level than the role being renewed.

Attaining a Level 2 Motorcycle Sport Officials Accreditation

Level 2 Officials Accreditation courses are conducted by the State Controlling Bodies (SCB's) of MA. Please contact your relevant SCB for further information about courses.

Note: Applications for Level 1 and 2 accreditation are generally reviewed by the SCB Administration. If there is any doubt as to the experience of the applicant, the application may be referred to the State Officials' Review Panel for final approval.


Level 3 - Open Event/State Title Level

To attain Level 3 accreditation, officials are required to hold current Level 2 officials accreditation and show proof of participation in the appropriate number of Club and Open events.

All Level 3 applications are review by the State Officials' Review panel before being granted accreditation at this level.

To retain their accreditation, Level 3 officials are required to show either proof of participation in the role, or proof of assisting at a higher level than the role being renewed. This must cover the appropriate number of Open and State Title events and/or with attendance at relevant seminars.

Attaining a Level 3 Motorcycle Sport Officials Accreditation

Level 3 Officials Accreditation is administered by the State Controlling Bodies (SCB's) of MA. Please contact your relevant SCB for further information.

Note: All Level 3 applications are reviewed by the State Officials' Review Panel before being approved.


Level 4 - National Championship Level

To attain Level 4 accreditation, officials are required to hold current Level 3 officials accreditation and show proof of participation in that role at the appropriate amount of Open and National Championship events.

To achieve Level 4 accreditation as a Steward, Referee and Clerk of Course, applicants must attend a Steward/Referee and Clerk of Course Officials Seminar conducted by MA and successfully attain the assessment requirements.

Level 4 accreditation for all positions other than those listed above may be awarded by the National Officials Committee after review of the individual's application.

Level 4 officials are required to show either proof of participation in the role, or proof of assisting at a higher level than the role being renewed. This must be at the appropriate number of Open and National Championship events and/or attendance at seminars to retain their accreditation.

Attaining a Level 4 Motorcycle Sport Officials Accreditation

Level 4 Officials Accreditation is administered by Motorcycling Australia.

To apply for Level 4 officials accreditation, or renew your Level 4 Officials accreditation, applicants must complete the Level 4 Application Form.


International (FIM) Accreditation

This may include senior officials at international level.

To be accredited at the International level, an applicant must hold current Level 4 accreditation in the relevant role and have successfully completed an FIM Seminar. 

FIM seminars are conducted in Australia and overseas as required to provide officials for World Championship events.
